Data Analyst – Belgian Scale-up | Almost Full Remote
Data Analyst – Belgian Scale-up | Almost Full Remote
The opportunity:
For one of our clients, a fast-growing Belgian scale-up, we are looking for a Data Analyst to strengthen a data team that is currently being built and expanded.
The company has experienced exceptional growth over the past year and now employs around 150 people, approximately 20 of whom are based in Belgium. To support this next phase of growth, they are investing further in their data capabilities and want to make data an increasingly important part of operational, product and strategic decision-making.
This is not a traditional reporting role where you will simply receive requests for dashboards.
We are looking for someone who is curious about how a business works, enjoys asking questions and can use data to understand what is happening, why it is happening and what the company should do about it.
You will work across the organisation with stakeholders from Operations, Finance, Sales, Growth, Digital, Partnerships and Product.
The position offers a highly flexible, almost fully remote working model. Candidates can be based anywhere in Belgium. Depending on your location and profile, office presence could range from approximately once a week to once every two weeks or even once a month.
What will you do?
As a Data Analyst, you will help the organisation understand and improve the different drivers behind its rapid growth.
You will take ownership of analytical questions from beginning to end. Rather than simply executing requests, you will work with stakeholders to understand the underlying business problem, identify the right data and determine the most appropriate way to answer the question.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Translating business challenges into clear analytical questions and frameworks
-
Exploring data to identify trends, bottlenecks, opportunities and unexpected changes
-
Challenging stakeholder requests when the initial question does not address the real business issue
-
Analysing operational performance and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency as volumes continue to scale
-
Analysing acquisition, conversion and customer/patient journeys to identify friction points
-
Supporting Product teams with data around new features, user behaviour, funnels and A/B testing
-
Analysing financial performance, revenue and margins to help prioritise high-impact initiatives
-
Working on Growth and Digital topics such as acquisition channels, attribution, UTM data and campaign performance
-
Defining and monitoring business KPIs, North Star Metrics and operational indicators
-
Building and improving dashboards and data visualisations
-
Conducting ad hoc analyses and impact studies
-
Connecting and exploring new data sources
-
Helping stakeholders understand the data and translating complex findings into actionable recommendations
-
Contributing to improvements in data models and the overall analytics environment
The scope is deliberately broad. One day you might investigate why a KPI suddenly dropped, while the next you could analyse a conversion funnel, evaluate the impact of a new product feature or help Operations understand how rapidly increasing volumes will affect staffing requirements.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Data Analyst who combines strong analytical skills with genuine business acumen.
You should be comfortable working independently in an environment where everything is not always fully defined in advance. You enjoy investigating problems, asking questions and finding pragmatic ways to generate useful insights.
Key requirements :
-
Strong hands-on experience with SQL – this is the most important technical requirement
-
Ability to explore data independently rather than relying exclusively on pre-built datasets or dashboards
-
Experience translating business questions into analytical approaches and actionable insights
-
Experience creating dashboards and meaningful data visualisations
-
Good understanding of Python and the ability to understand, follow and adapt scripts; expert-level Python development is not required
-
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
-
Ability to explain complex analyses clearly to non-technical colleagues
-
Comfortable interacting with senior stakeholders and challenging their assumptions when necessary
-
High degree of autonomy, curiosity and initiative
-
Comfortable working in a rapidly changing scale-up environment
-
Fluent professional English with fluent level in either French or Dutch
Nice to have: previous experience in a start-up or scale-up (ie. fast moving environments)
We are flexible regarding the exact number of years of experience. Several years of relevant Data Analytics experience would be ideal, but potential, maturity, autonomy and demonstrated impact are more important than a specific number of years on your CV.
Technical environment:
The current data environment includes technologies such as:
-
SQL / PostgreSQL
-
Python
-
BI & dashboarding tools
-
SQLMesh
-
Azure
-
Data modelling
-
Product and digital analytics tools
Experience with the exact technology stack is not required. If you have strong SQL fundamentals, relevant analytics experience and the ability to learn new technologies quickly, we would still like to hear from you.
The existing data environment is already relatively mature and usable. You will therefore not be joining a company where everything needs to be rebuilt from scratch. At the same time, there is still plenty of opportunity to improve data models, simplify processes and help shape the future analytics environment.
Why join?
This is an opportunity to join a company at a particularly exciting stage of its development.
You will become one of the first members of a growing Data Analytics team, with plans to further expand the team over the coming year.
You will have the opportunity to:
-
Join a Belgian scale-up that has grown to around 150 employees in a very short period
-
Have a direct impact on important business and product decisions
-
Work across many different areas rather than being confined to one business domain
-
Help shape the way analytics is used across the organisation
-
Work with senior stakeholders and have significant autonomy
-
Join an international and entrepreneurial environment
-
Work almost fully remotely from Belgium
-
Develop alongside a Data team that is expected to continue growing
Compensation:
A very competitive gross salary with a company car, representation allowance and many other benefits...
